Welcome to the Kiel Summer School (KiSS)
|
|
 |
|
 |
The Kiel Summer School (KiSS) is a program designed to fit perfectly in the vacation schedule of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UofI).
It is indented to be a center for learning in an international context, offering a variety of courses in economics, business
administration, and quantitative methods in English language without missing a single day of lectures at UofI. Throughout the eight-week program the International Center offers a series of field trips.
Prior German language training is recommended but not required.
|
| | |
The main purpose of KiSS is academic. High-quality courses conducted in English language are offered in an intellectually challenging environment.
KiSS provides a unique opportunity for English-speaking foreign students and academics to deepen and widen their knowledge of business
administration, economics, and quantitative methods.
In addition to academic instruction, KiSS offers a unique
chance to get firsthand experience of today‘s Germany. Participants take
courses together with German students and some participants may choose to stay with German
families. The KISS office and the International Center Kiel provide general information on Germany
and Europe, including topics such as politics, history, and local customs.
Furthermore, KiSS will also prepare its participants for
studying, traveling and other activities in Germany.
|
| | | KiSS is part of the Christian-Albrechts-University
of Kiel (CAU) and its Faculty
of Economics, Business, Quantitative Methods, and Social Sciences in
cooperation with the International Center. The University of Kiel
dates
back to 1665 and has 24,000 students enrolled. It is the oldest and
largest
university in Schleswig-Holstein, the most northern state of Germany.
The
campus is located in pleasant surroundings, five minutes from the city
center by bus or bike and only minutes away from the Kiel Bay and its
beautiful
beaches on the Baltic Sea.
KiSS runs annually from June through July at the
university campus and
is open to qualified participants from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
|
| |
| The academic staff of KiSS consists of faculty members of the
Economics,
Business Administration, Quantitative Methods, and Social Sciences
Departments
and members of the
Kiel Institute for the World Economy. All participating institutions
have
an excellent international reputation based on their research and
publications.
Polls rank the Economics and
Statistics
Departments among the very top in this country. The Kiel Institute of
World
Economics is acknowledged as one of the three leading economic research institute in
Germany and houses the world's largest economics libraries.
|
| |
| Participants attend regularly scheduled lectures, take examinations
or, alternatively, write term papers, and, upon successful completion of requirements, receive the Department's Summer School Certificate of
Achievement and a transcript of grades.
