GETTING TO KIEL BY CAR

Train connections and schedules can be found at: Fahrplanauskunft der Deutschen Bahn. Usually you have to change trains in Hamburg although a few trains a day continue directly to Kiel. If you change at Hamburg do it at the Dammtor station because that one has only one platform for north-bound trains. The Kiel Institute of World Economics is served by bus lines 41 or 42 (start: Kiel station; bus stop: Institut für Weltwirtschaft; one ticket costs € 1.80, timetables) or by ferry (start: Kiel station; ferry stop: Reventloubrücke; one ticket costs € 1.80, timetables). There are three airports close to Kiel: Hamburg, Kiel itself and Lübeck. While Hamburg is a major airport with air connections to most European cities, Kiel is a regional airport served solely by Lufthansa/Air Alliance. Lübeck is interesting because Ryanair offers cheap flights from London Stansted. Hotelfinder.


Airport Hamburg
Please click here for air connections. There is a convenient shuttle bus from Hamburg airport to Kiel (railway station). It's called "Kielius". runs every hour, takes about 90 min (don't get off at Neumünster) and costs about € 25. Timetables and more can be found at: Fahrplan Autokraft.


Airport Kiel
Kiel airport is a regional airport with flights within Germany: Berlin, Köln, Frankfurt, Mannheim, Nürnberg and München (click here for air connections). From Kiel airport you can take the bus lines 501 or 502 to come in the city (€ 1,80) or simply take a taxi (€ 10).


Airport Lübeck
Lübeck is a regional airport (click here for flight schedule). First take the bus to central station and then it's about 80 min to get to Kiel by train (€ 12,40). For train connections please visit the Deutsche-Bahn-Webpage: Fahrplanauskunft der Deutschen Bahn.
